Genesis 18:1-15

God redeems a people for himself, a people he desires to fellowship with, by the impossible. Is anything too hard for God? The answer according to the text is emphatically no! Only when it is humanly impossible will Isaac come onto the scene. Then and only then can we know that the covenant promise did not come about by human effort but was of God.

God's justice gives hope to the church. While the idea of judgement tends to be negative, the judgement of God proves to be something positive for the church. The justness of God's justice is proven by persecution, the reward of God's justice is universal, and the coming of God's justice encourages faithfulness.

Paul ends his first letter to the church in Thessalonica with a charge and a blessing. He charges them to support their pastors, show patience to people, and stand firm through suffering. They are to do this through the lens of the truth that God will surely bring to completion what he has begun in his people. Christ will grow his church more and more.
